Sin tax
The SA government announced that excise duties for alcohol and tobacco would increase by between 6% and 10% for the 2018/19 financial year. This is expected to bring in an additional R1.33 billion in revenue as part of tax policy proposals which is expected to raise R36 billion in additional tax revenue for the 2018/2019 financial year. Excise taxes on alcohol and tobacco are likely to continue increasing at an above-inflation rate, as has been the case since 2002. (http://bit.ly/2IG1Y4z)
