   Has the number of households living in poverty increased or decreased? The question is surprisingly difficult to answer. Firstly, what exactly constitutes a household and is it the correct unit of analysis to explore the data on poverty? Secondly, if it is, how well does the IES capture household dynamics? At an even more basic level, how well does the IES capture the number of households in South Africa?

   What was importance of this fact? The value of the rand as rule of thumb, almost half every 5years. Considering inflation and rand value at the time should the comparative values, the question to answer is “What will be the number of households per capita with less than R40 per day income” and then compare with 2006.
