   What is this it’s been two days where the Fact isn’t a fact. Or is this part of a statement you are trying to make due to the posibilaty that broad based research might not be available. If so please send the original fact along with the false one.

   Thanks for the comment Andre. Yes, we are trying to get people to realise that AMPS might not exist. The facts will be return next week with the release of AMPS 2013

   I fully understand NAB’s point of view with regards to broad based research and how it should be done and to whom – however, I don’t agree with the way in which it was done. As much as I use AMPS in my daily research (for reference purposes), I find that the types of questions and categories are not very innovative and not much has been done by AMPS nor SAARF in the past decade to change, just like how the South African market has changed. Say, the LSM questionnaire for example where they ask about household items and/or appliances is rather questionable – i know of a few cases of people who were asked whether they have a washing machine, stove, etc and they did agree – these people fell at LSM 7. Upon further inspection, I realised that they don’t quite belong in the LSM 7 brackets as firstly, they did not buy the appliances themselves – it was given to them by their employers. Say, you have another individual who seems the same on the LSM scale and on paper, but this LSM 7 person actually bought the items, which means they have more income than the first person. Secondly, some have the appliances which are not in working order, that’s questionable as well!

   I’ve stopped using the LSM set of questions as they mean absolutely nothing in my current work environment, but am now using segmentation screener – this helps me MUCH more in understanding attitudes, financial behaviours, etc and gives better direction for marketing purposes
