South Africa’s Wonder Woman
On 30 July, Tatjana Schoenmaker shattered an 8-year-old world record to win the 200m Breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics, with a time of 2:18.95. She is the first South African woman to win an Olympic gold medal for swimming in 25 years. She also managed to secure South Africa’s second silver medal after finishing 0.27 seconds behind the winner in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke.
