Spaced Out
As part of the National Census, the country gets segmented into a series of spatial layers, the largest of which is province and the smallest of which are enumeration areas. In the 2011 Census 103,576 enumeration areas were utilised – typically holding a population of ~500 individuals. Enumeration areas are used to facilitate data collection, while larger layers, such as Sub Place, Main Place, Local Municipality, and District Municipality act as more meaningful spatial segments.
