South Africa’s passive response to the on-going Russia-Ukraine war may be influenced by its economic relationship with the superpower. In 2020 South Africa imported an estimated $506m worth of goods and services from Russia. The largest of these imports were copper wire ($169m and 60% of SA total imports), and wheat ($117m and 24% of SA total imports)
