Tetris was invented in 1984 by Russian software engineer, Alexey Pajitnov. Since its creation, the game has become one of the best-selling video games of all time, with over 520m units sold. Tetris got its name from the Latin word “tetra”, which is the prefix “four” after the number of squares in each shape, and “tennis”, the creator’s favourite game.
