The Darwin awards recognise those that die in such an idiotic manner that ‘their action ensures the long-term survival of the species, by selectively allowing one less idiot to survive.’ A recent paper for the British Medical Journal found that males are significantly more likely to receive a Darwin award; of the 318 valid awards granted over a 20 year period, 88.7% were awarded to males.
