Sweeter than gold!
The history of chocolate goes back to the ancient Olmecs of southern Mexico, perhaps as early as 1500BCE. Originally chocolate was a bitter, water based drink, sometimes mixed with chilli or honey. Over time the tradition passed to the Aztecs who considered cocoa beans more valuable than gold! Chocolate first arrived in Europe in the late 1500s as a drink. In the late 1800’s the founders of Nestle and Lindt (finally!) developed the processes which produce the bars we enjoy today.
