Taliban Takeover
On February 29th 2020, the United States signed an agreement with the Taliban to significantly reduce armed forces within Afghanistan. Disagreements between intra-Afghan stakeholders manifested in the situation on the ground, where the struggle for control remained active and violent. As the U.S. began its withdrawal in 2021, Taliban forces captured outposts and cities moving in towards the capital, Kabul, which was captured on August 15th 2021. Millions of Afghans are now living in fear and seeking asylum from the unrest.
