   Perhaps cellphones should be used to enhance the sanitary conditions in the country.

   I think it’s an irrelevant quantifier – surely loos and communication are poles apart? Cellphones mean that families who previously relied on a most unreliable postal service, now have money – They just need to realise that the government is unreliable with basic delivery, then all will be sunny in ZAland

   The reasons are IMHO two-fold:

   1) The wireless “last-mile” connection of cellphones make for relatively easy deployment. Remember when Telkom failed miserably in rolling out landlines to under-serviced areas?
   2) Cellphone companies aren’t govt. depts. or parastatals, although Eskom was quite successful with the electrification drive…

   Statistically it is now proven that more people talk cr@p rather than actually adding some action to the spoken word…..
