TB or not TB
In South Africa, a BCG vaccine has been given to all infants since 2001, with high coverage (99% in 2005 in the Western Cape). This protects against one of the worst forms of TB in children. Studies have also found that it provides protection against other respiratory diseases, reducing respiratory tract infections by approximately 73% in adolescents. A South African research study has begun to test the hypothesis that this vaccine could reduce the prevalence and/or the severity of COVID-19 in patients. #AfricaMonth
