The WHO says that the Lambda variant (C.37) has been the COVID-19 carrier in about 81% of infections in Peru since April 2021. The variant was first identified in Peru in August 2020 and has now spread to more than 30 countries. In June this year, the WHO designated it as a “variant of interest.” Evidence is still mounting as to the degree of threat that it poses.
