The Cost of War
A Costs of War project from the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs at Brown University shows that the US spent $2.26 trillion on the war in Afghanistan. That is equivalent to Afghanistan’s entire 2020 GDP every year for over 100 years. Of this, $83 billion was used to train and supply the Afghan army, which collapsed under the weight of the Taliban forces soon after the US withdrawal. The project also estimated that 241 000 people have died as a direct result of this war.
