One of Cape Town’s notable landmarks is an unfinished highway on the Foreshore, with a ~300m wide missing piece in the middle. Originally halted in 1977, a contract was awarded 40 years later for the completion of the Foreshore Freeway project at a cost of R8bn, but the contract was cancelled a year later in 2018 due to budget and tender irregularity concerns.
