While asthma prevalence is higher among young boys (9.2%) than young girls (7.4%), by adolescence the prevalence and severity of asthma becomes higher for women. Further, among the 65+ age cohort, women are nearly twice as likely as men to have asthma (9.4% vs 4.9%).
