This past Saturday saw the annual Australia Day Cockroach Races being hosted at the Story Bridge Hotel, Brisbane. The purse for a winning cockroach was a $200 pub voucher. With race entry at 5 Australian Dollars it is estimated that this growing sport contributes very little to the Australian GDP (though it does raise funds for a local youth charity).
