South Africa recently experienced a Cholera outbreak, with over 1,000 suspected cases and 47 deaths, across five provinces between the 1st of February and 4th of July 2023. The root cause of this outbreak can be attributed to the country’s widespread sewage pollution crisis, with 89% of wastewater treatment systems identified in a critical state in 2013, requiring urgent rehabilitation.
