Google executives have acknowledged that almost 40% of young users (15-24) in the USA claim to prefer using TikTok as a search engine due to its unique algorithm giving more personalised results more quickly than Google. This trend may be reaching South Africa; MAPS data shows that 24% of South African Adults between the ages of 15 and 24 have used TikTok in the last month.

      When a child reaches the age of 15, the law says that he or she:
      •Can be employed;
      •Can choose to leave school;
      •Can enter into a civil law marriage with the consent of parents or guardians. If under the age of 15, a child needs the consent of the Minister of Home Affairs as well.
