Umkhosi weLembe
On the 24th of September, the Zulu nation celebrates Umkhosi weLembe or Shaka Day to commemorate King Shaka (1787 – 1828) who united more than 100 chiefdoms to form the Zulu Kingdom. Nationally, Heritage Day celebrates the many cultural heritages of South Africa. Speaking of Heritage Day, Nelson Mandela said that ‘our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our new nation.’
