   My 16-year-old grand-daughter and five friends were recently picnicking and fishing at a local dam when they were approached by two black men brandishing machetes, who threatened them with violence if they resisted being robbed of all their belongings, including cash and cellphones, then walked off with all the loot as though they were entitled to do so. An immediate visit to the nearest police station led to them being simply ignored and ridiculed by the on-duty police staff who also refused to take down details or officially record their statement. The severely traumatized and violated young group vowed that they would never again turn to the police for assistance. Surely this is the reason people no longer bother to report crimes. Surely, this is what makes the new Rainbow-nationed South Africa a new and exciting addition to the first-world nations of our wonderful man-governed planet.
   How much longer can this set-up possibly last?
   Methinks the end is already clearly in sight!!!

   Simey, the survey simply asked “were you a victim of crime?” and “Did you report it?”
