According to a recent survey released by the Human Sciences Research Council, the percentage of South Africans living with HIV declined from 14% in 2017 to 13% in 2022. Moreover, 81% of individuals living with HIV, who are 15 years or older, were virally suppressed (defined as having less than 1000 copies of HIV per milliliter of blood) in 2022, up from 62% in 2017.
