While the James Webb Telescope (JWT) has reached its destination 1.5 million km away, its commissioning period doesn’t end until June. JWT will only begin making “scientific observations” after this, sometime near the end of June. On 11 February, NASA released JWT’s first photo, showing 18 points of view of a star (HD 84406), which was used to adjust its 18 mirror segments to focus on one point. To find this specific star, NASA scanned 156 positions, and took 1,500 images.
