Hydroponic methods of agriculture only require around 10% to 16% of the water that conventional farming methods use. Considering that conventional irrigation farming makes up about 60% of all water usage in South Africa, if all our agricultural practices used hydroponic methods, agricultural production would only make up around 9.6% of South Africa’s water usage.
