The 2022 SONA announced that migration from analogue to digital transmission of television broadcasts would wrap up in March 2022. The digital switchover will affect low-income households as digital transmission requires the costly installation of a satellite dish and a signal decoder. According to MAPS data, approximately 10m individuals do not have satellite television services. Plans to issue vouchers for signal decoders are underway to curb the disconnection of low-income families.
