According to LFS 2021Q4 the total number of employed persons in South Africa was 14.5m – up by 1.8% QoQ but down 3.2% YoY. There were 129,000 additional people employed by Private Households (typically low paying, vulnerable jobs), with a further 118,000 employed in the Trade industry. As a result, these two industries account for the bulk of the QoQ growth in employment.
