Who are the Youth?
The United Nations describes the youth as the population between 15 and 24 years. In South Africa, the youth is the population between 15 and 35 years. The National Youth Commission Act of 1996, defends this definition by stating that many of the older youth need to be included in the youth development initiative because most of them were disadvantaged by their role in the struggle against apartheid. According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey Q1 2019, 63.4% of unemployed people are aged 15-34. (http://bit.ly/2KPrGGK, http://bit.ly/2X6e1BV)
