Wildfires in California
According to wildfire historians, the raging “Camp Fire” in Northern California is the deadliest wildfire in the United States in a century, with the death toll standing at 56. Not since the Cloquet Fire in 1918, where an estimated 450 died, has a wildfire killed so many people in the US. The deadliest fire in U.S. history was the 1871 Peshtigo Fire in Wisconsin.
