Women in Space
On June 16, 1963, Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space aboard the Vostok 6. After 48 orbits and 71 hours, she returned to earth. She received the Order of Lenin and Hero of the Soviet Union awards, and in 1966 became a member of the Supreme Soviet (the USSR’s national parliament). She also served as the Soviet representative to numerous international women’s organizations. (http://bit.ly/2KLDFXL)
