Super South African Surfer
Bianca Buitendag became the second SA woman in history to win an Olympic medal outside athletics and swimming when she won silver in the inaugural surfing event with a score of 8.46 against the gold medalist (USA) Carissa Moore’s score of 14.93. Amazingly if it were not for a number of SA national sporting federations forcing SASCOC to change the their selection policy in 2019, Bianca would not have been chosen to represent the country in Tokyo.
