Tertiary education has grown for both men and women, and the gender gap is closing. Using MAPS data from July 2021 - June 2022 and July 2025 - June 2026, the share of men with a tertiary qualification rose from 1 in 9 to 1 in 6, while for women it rose from 1 in 11 to 1 in 7. Younger generations have closed the gap: Gen Z women lead, while millennials are level. Among Gen X, men remain more likely to be tertiary-educated, while among Boomers, men are twice as likely as women to hold a tertiary qualification.
