On this day in 1980, the Japanese game manufacturer Namco Limited introduced the world to Pac-Man. By 1990 Namco Limited sold around 400,000 Pac-Man gaming cabinets to arcades around the world, making around $3.5bn in lifetime sales, surpassing Space Invaders ($2.7bn) and Street Fighter II ($2.3bn).
