Current estimates from the Department of Housing suggest that, although the government has been delivering houses for the poor through the housing subsidy scheme (approximately 3 million houses delivered since 1994), the housing backlog remains on the increase. In 2001 the backlog was estimated to be 1.8 million houses, in 2011 this increased to 2.1 million. (http://bit.ly/LOak8Q)
