Over the next three years Eskom faces a revenue shortfall of R225 bn. The power utility has put forward a proposal for the legalisation of cannabis, arguing that the tax income received from sales of the drug could help with the shortfall. The US state of Colorado (population of 5.35 million) allowed legal sales of cannabis in January 2014, over that year the state earned around $76 million (R918 million) in taxes, licenses and fees related to cannabis (http://bit.ly/1xrzK5q, http://dpo.st/19wPhGc)
