According to the Parliamentary Monitoring Group, 23 individuals or 6% of the Members of Parliament in South Africa fall within the youth category (aged 35 and younger). 56% of these MPs are female. In comparison to the rest of the world, the 2016 Youth Participation in National Parliaments study found that people under the age of 30 made up less than 2% of the world's MPs and the male/female ratio was 60:40.
