Pravin Gordhan announced that sin tax on cigarettes will increase by 60c to R10.92 per packet of 20 cigarettes. Last year the Tobacco Institute of South Africa (TISA) estimated that 8 billion smuggled cigarettes were smoked in South Africa costing the government R12bn in lost taxes.
