The 2016 Rio Olympics saw collaboration between the International Olympic Committee and the UN Refugee Agency in the creation of the first Refugee Olympic Team. The 10 athletes were displaced from counties such as Ethiopia, South Sudan, Syria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This year there will be 29 athletes competing as part of the Refugee Olympic Team at the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
