Although South Africa only accounts for 2% of the world's land surface it is home to 10% of the world’s plant species and 7% of its reptile, bird and mammal species. Biodiversity contributes approximately R31bn per year to the South African economy through tourism demand and additionally contributes R18bn to the African Traditional Medicine sector.
