Dubbed ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’ by MGM Studios in 1933, actress Hedy Lamarr was also a mathematician and co-inventor of frequency-hopping technology. In 1942, she developed “spread spectrum communications”, which became a precursor to the secure wi-fi, GPS and Bluetooth technology used by billions of people around the world.
