Strike or holiday
The number of working days lost through strike action in the UK was 24.2 days per year (per 1000 employees) over the period 2008-2012. The equivalent number for South Africa over the same period is 18 times higher at 440 days per year, despite the fact that South Africa’s unemployment rate is more than 3 times greater than that of the UK.
